Welcome Pedros

We are excited to add Pedro’s to our list of sponsor’s of Team Speed Queen. We know that you probably already use their products, but we thought you might be interested in seeing where they came from and what is on the horizon for them.

Pedro’s History

In 1989, two college students from Cambridge, Massachusetts created Pedro’s. Named for a founder’s roommate, the company built its foundation on quality bike maintenance products, a true passion for cycling, and a commitment to the environment.

It all began in 1989 with Syn Lube. Bruce’s brother, Phil, a tribologist (one who studies the science of lube and yes it really is a word), discovered a synthetic automotive lube that – if he could alter the lube’s chemistry a bit – thought might make a good lube for his mountain biker brother. The resulting formula became Pedro’s flagship product, Syn Lube ATB, still the standard chain lube for wet and muddy conditions. From this beginning we grew to become Pedro’s INC, with more than 100 bicycle care products sold in 34 countries.

Most days you’ll find us on our bikes. Most weekends you’ll find us at events. We work for advocacy. We believe the bike is an instrument of good. We take pride in the teams we support, and our constant development of product. Our people are as important as our products.

Environment and Founding Mission

Since our inception, Pedro’s mission has been to improve the cycling experience. We create innovative products that lead the industry in a respectful and responsible way. In 1992 we introduced the Milk Lever. The intention behind Milk Levers was good; after all, what environmentally-aware cyclist wouldn’t approve of a tire lever made from 100 percent recycled plastic milk containers? But when inconsistencies became apparent, Pedro’s retired the levers in favor of a sturdier, more reliable tire lever that quickly became the industry standard. We take pride in crafting innovative products, but we know that first and foremost, our products need to satisfy demanding customers.

Pedro’s Offerings

Pedro’s is uniquely positioned to offer lubes, cleaners and tools for bike repair and maintenance. Our cleaning and degreasing products are tough on dirt and grease but gentle on bikes and on the environment. Tool sets provide everything a professional or an enthusiast needs to keep their ride performing at its best. Durable stands allow repairs to be made comfortably and quickly. We have everything you need to keep your bike rolling.

Choose the Bike

Cycling means a lot to Pedro’s and our customers. It’s a lifestyle, a choice and a discipline. It’s a culture, it’s transportation and it’s a passion. More simply, it is a way to connect with the world around us.

Pedro’s Competitive Advantage

Our competitive advantage is clear: We strive for innovation and move with our mind on what matters. We believe the bicycle is an instrument of good and we are committed to keeping them rolling as sustainably and cleverly as possible.

Dirty is easy. The difficulty comes in designing bike care products that improve performance and ease of use without risk to the user or the environment – all while delivering design-forward and award-winning tools and accessories.

Our position is up-market, with products designed for committed cyclists and thoughtful people. Our three product segments allow Pedro’s to position itself for “Complete Bicycle Care,” supply a broader product range, and offer more solutions than any of our direct competitors.

Pedro’s Science

Pedro's sophisticated blends outperform synthetic lubes. Twenty years ago, people began to use synthetics over basic petroleum for primarily two reasons; longer life and enhanced additive properties. Our vegetable/synthetic engineered blends Go! and Chainj are the next horizon and here’s why:

1) Vegetable oils are larger molecules with a slight negative charge. The negative charge enables the vegetable oil to interact with the positive charge of a metal surface, creating a protective barrier on the surface.

2) Vegetable oils are more slippery, enabling the metal surfaces to slide easier, reducing friction.

3) The negative charge, molecule size, and viscosity of our vegetable/synthetic lubes make them much better penetrants – they’re able to get into the cracks and help to remove frozen bolts.

4) Vegetable oil is a great solvent. Chainj and GO! oils have excellent solvency and work as a ‘self cleaning’ lube.

5) Vegetable oils are derived from sustainable sources.
